As you already know, I live in Malaysia, and not far from here is a turtle breeding station. It’s an important station as turtles getting more and more rare. Although turtles lay up to about 100 eggs, the mortality rare by natural causes is about 98%. Now men comes and eat turtles and turtle eggs. The result… you can imagine. The once common Leatherback is now almost disappeared. Green Turtles and Olive Ridgebacks do come around here.
However, people still eat turtle meat and eggs (one egg cost here in Malaysia about RM 3-4, US$1 and people are still willing to pay!
The Turtle Research and Rehabilitation Group, formerly known as Sea Turtle Research Unit (SEATRU) Universiti Malaysia Terengganu has set up a plan to make people More aware of the problems turtles face. Become a Turtle Ambassador, click here and help to bring the turtles back in Malaysia.
