You are currently browsing the monthly archive for March 2008.

March 21 is spring in the Northern Hemisphere.  It’s a time of growth and renewal. (If you’re on the other side of the Equator, just pretend it’s September. ;-) )Are you looking to get a new business in bloom? Here’s the good news! We have again the US$100 Spring Special. SBI! is a bargain at triple its usual $299 price. Those shameful Get-Rich-Quick products waste your  time and money. And “cheap-quick,” old-fashioned Web hosting and site builders only deliver near-certain failure for most people looking to start a small business online.

So $299 is an unbeatable bargain, with unbeatable results.

Now folks get a “Spring Break” on the price and build yourself a solid serious business that lasts. You can do it. If you are a work at home mom,

or you are a webmaster already:

Share your passion with the rest of the world, like I do with my Pangkor website (and actually with

My motto is still that if I can do it, you can do it too!

Last Sunday I visited a wedding at Pangkor. An Indian lady married a man from Kuala Lumpur. Here’s the story

Rita wrote a website about Asutralia’s Outback. Outback Australia? Where’s that? To be honest, I had no clue when I found her website. But then again, there are so many places I have never heard of. At first I thought it was a town, maybe a province. But no, it was really the outback. An area roughly in east Australia, but not located in the dense populated areas of Sydney or Melbourne. Not that far East!

One of the photos I found on Rita’s site, really knocked me out:

(thanks Rita for publishing this photo)

Now this is an empty land. I have cycled in south Iran, right in the desert there, but this seemed to be the real REAL thing to do. There’s a whole lot of nothingness in this picture and that is what apparently Australia’s Outback is. For sure it’s not for the fainthearted, and not for those who search for luxury and comfort. This is, to me at least, more real then most places I have seen in my life. And Rita brought up a desire to go to Australia and visit this (what at least seems) God forsaken country. But what a beauty.

And then a friend send me an Australian movie, written by rock star Nick Cave. It’s a story about Australia’s history: The Proposition, and I guessed it would surely do with Rita’s website:

When Mr. Goh from the Team Building business called me this morning (see his business here) for a breakfast, I didn’t have to think twice. We usually have our breakfast in my favorite noodle stall for a good bowl of the so called 3 in 1 soup, a mix of laksa, curry mee and prawn mee. We were discussing the groups my friend would bring in the next weeks.

Mr. Goh told me he would bring a group to the secluded Teluk Segadas beach. This beach is only accessible through a jungle path. We both know the path, a 20 minutes easy hike, very well. Discussing what he was planning to do, I suggested to sort out another, rougher option. I knew there was a path from the nearby Tiger Rock, a very secluded expensive resort in the jungle, to the other side of Pangkor. What I did not know if it was possible to hike from Tiger Rock to Teluk Segadas. This would be nice because then we could direct the group in a loop without doing the same trek back to Teluk Segadas.

We decided to have a good look at the map and after checking it looked interesting. So we got a motorbike, Goh prefered the motorbike because it was faster then bicycle, went to Lumut, got the ferry and went to Tiger Rock.

At Tiger Rock, Mr. Mohan, the manager explained us a few things and on we went. As it usually goes at Pangkor, there are few good scenic spots but… the jungle itself was beautiful, almost totally unspoiled. We found a trail, long lost, as far as we could see. Using our parangs (machette) we opened the  path and went on.

At a certain moment it started to rain. Now I don’t mind the rain, and neither does Goh. But when the lightning started we thought it was wiser to move back. But not after we climbs up to the first hill, had a good look how to continue and decided we would come back another day, much earlier, so we would have time to sort this path put. It was a great little trek, despite the fact we didn’t finish it.

Jessie is our tour guide and operator in Yangshuo. She’s not “just another guide”, Jessie is the best we could find for the Yangshuo Travel Guide. Special for the Yangshuo website, she gives an insight in her own travel adventures in Thailand.

Nipah Bay Villa has extended its property. A range of new rooms are added but the most spectacular addition is the rooftop cafe with a nice view on a nearby eagles nest.

More  relaxed then downstairs you can enjoy Pangkor from a different point of view. In the morning you will see the eagles flying around while in the evening the hornbills fly around to search for bread and fruits

GBBM, Gerakan Belia Bersatu Malaysiais a Malaysia youth organization was guest at the Vikri Beach Resort. The reason, as Mr. David, the leader of the group, Serendah branch, told me was that in his own area, there is not enough space to work with such a big group. The group consist of over 50 children plus staff. Here’s more about this event

We have been working hard to ge a lot more diving information on the Pulau Pangkor website. As Pangkor itself is not an option (at least not at the moment, by the lack of a dive operator), we look at Pulau Payar and Perhentian to give you the best scuba diving information. Diving in Perhentian is already a good page to start your diving explorations in Malaysia. Now, with our reef diving pages we have added a new level of diving info.

Diving in Raja Ampat and Komodo, Indonesia are great examples of spectacular diving holidays. Cheap? No, but diving is never cheap. But then again, diving in some of the most spectacular seas on earth with the best dive masters. Now THAT is a challenge.
