Some people know me and remember I lived a year in the UK. In Manchester to be precise. Not my first choice but hey… sometimes you compromise. So Manchester readers, don’t feel offended. Manchester does not have a good name but it’s not fair. The city, especially the city center and much of the southern area of Greater Manchester is really good quality living.
As a cyclist however, no city is really good for me. It doesn’t mean the city is NOT good. Manchester as city for a long distance cyclist as me, is so-so. I lived nearby Chorlton and that was still an hour cycling out of the city. Every 100 meter standing still for a traffic light. No, that’s not my kind of cycling. However, once out of the city, the countryside was really good.
Roads to Buxton, Macclesfield or Lymm were always a pleasure to go through. Too bad it took so long to come on those roads. For my bicycle website, I wrote an overview of my cycling adventures in Manchester. Read more here.
Local tour guide and tour operator Jessie Lu has set up, special for the www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com website a set of tours in and around Yangshuo. Jessie’s tours are so special, that even in Yangshuo, amongst the tour guides some question about the places Jessie visits.
Here’s more about Jessie’s tours in and around Yangshuo
Last week Jessie had a few guests. Let’s see what they said:
Perhentian islands is a group of island on the Malaysian east coast. It’s a popular holiday destination but it is mostly famous for diving. We have setup a detailed map for you where you can see for yourself how many great dive sites there are.
Plus a detailed map, special designed for the readers of Pulau Pangkor.com: click here for the Perhentian dive map
Malaysia is well known for many things but if you ask me, diving is probably the best known. Of course, Sabah, with Sipadan islands is one of the worlds best (and expensive) dive spots. Perhentian is another not too spoiled by tourism islands with plenty of excellent dive spots and beautiful beaches.
Spectacular fish, like this blue ring angelfish can be seen even by snorklers! So visit Perhentian and enjoy the underwater world.
Before the start of the 3rd stage of the Tour de Langkawi in Sitiawan there was plenty to see. A cultural show with dancing, Indian spike dancing followed with admiration from the cyclists but it was, of course all about the start of the 3rd stage of the Tour de Langkawi 2008.
Here is a report of the Tour de Langkawi 2008 in Sitiawan and here are more photos
Unknown makes unwanted but it doesn’t always mean uninteresting! Kampar is such a place. The little old town is very typical Malaysian, or should I say very Chinese Malaysian? Small shops, coffee shops, little restaurants, ahhh… if you come in Kampar, you have to try the roti kari chicken. It’s a bread with curry chicken inside, fabulous.
Nearby are of course the Gua Tempurung caves, the longest caves in Malaysia and every time I visited they were again a pleasure to be inside. For the adventurous traveler, try the lower parts of the caves and experience in some places total darkness.
And stay in the Grand Kampar Hotel, stylish new and excellent hotel. Great rooms for a surprising low price. Check it out.
Here’s a picture of the rooms the Grand Kampar Hotel offers:
