There are picknick tables too. My main interest was the turtle breeding station the Malaysian Department of Fishery has set up here. 4 of the 7 world wide known species of Marine turtles breed in Malaysia. Pasir Panjiang is the most visited are in Perak, north west malaysia where they breed. Here’s a bit more and some photos of the turtle breeding station, which in my humble opinion, is a must visit for visitor to Pangkor Island and Lumut

You can be as far away from civilization as possible by going into the swamps and mangrove forest around Lumut. Yesterday I went again in one of those areas. I have to admit, I had not been there for awhile. But what a beauty! I saw a bit of wildlife including monkeys and a 3 meter big monitor lizard who was warming itself up in the sun. The highest mountain in south east Asia is to be found in Sabah, east Malaysia. Sabah is famous for it’s orang utan reservate but Mount Kinabalu deserves a lot of attention too. Dr. Ruhaizad Daud wrote an excellent introduction to this beautiful mountain. All you need to know for climbing to the top of the south east Asian world, from sea level to over 4000 meter. Isn’t that a real adventure?
Some years ago I went there and climbed up. In fact it’s not a climb with irons and ropes. Good walking shoes, a good health and some humor is all you need to make it to the top. Read more what Dr. Ruhaizad Daud has to say at about Mount Kinabalu, Sabah East Malaysia

Next week it is time again. I am going to do what I haven’t done for almost a year now! And believe me, I am looking forward to do it! It’s time to ride my bicycle from Sitiawan (near Pulau Pangkor) back to Thailand. The route I am going to use goes from Sitiawan to Kuala Kangsar and then Betong, the border town in Thailand. From there to Yala and Hat Yai. A full description of that road you can here. Anyone wants to join me?!?
Lumut is the gateway to Pangkor Island. It’s a small town but nice enough to spend a day there. Find all you need at the main Lumut page
