Mansourah (15) and her brother Salman (9) entered the MALAYSIAN BOOK OF RECORDS when they successfully swam unaided for 8.9 km from Pangkor Island to Lumut in 3 hrs 40 mts. They are the first Malaysian children to do so.

In the next Pulau Pangkor Newsletter more about Mansourah and Salman.

Weird maybe but I still don’tsee many people cycling in and around Lumut. I don’t really understand why. I live in Sitiawan and find cycling around nice and refreshing. There’s a few good spots to see around Lumut and Seri Manjung. Read more about the cycling/motorcycling possibilities at my special designed page.

It seems most tourist forget Lumut has it’s own attractions. Many just come to take the ferry to Pangkor island. Of course, this is one of the functions of Lumut. But Lumut has much, much more. Read about the Lumut at my Lumut page

Wow! Was that an event or not! Most of the Sitiawan and Lumut people have seen or at least heard of it! Television and radio were there. And as an active cyclist I was there to tell you. What? The Tour de Langkawi has visited Sitiawan for finishing stage two at February 4 while the start of the third stage was hold at the boulevard in Lumut. All was very well organised. It was a pleasure to see a good field of cyclist here in Malaysia.

Maximiliano Richeze, yellow jersey in Sitiawan and Lumut
Yellow jersey, the leader in the overall standing, Maximiliano Richeze did a good job in Sitiawan to finish behind teammate Ruben Bongiorno. The Tour de Langkawi will further go on to the Cameron Highlands, Genting Highland and Malacca before it will finish after 1o hard days in the tropical sun with a criterium in Kuala Lumpur.

To my never ending shame I found I had forgotten to mention one of the nicest and smallest beaches at Pangkor Island. Never seen before? On the contrary! Teluk Ketapang is sandwiched between Pasir Bogak and Nipah Bay. I have passed it on my bicycle many times, went swimming there, had chats with some of the boatsmen, but forgot to mention it. Why? I can’t tell you.

Now, I have corrected this. Have a look at the upgraded Pangkor Beach page. If you’re at Pangkor, there is no way you can miss this lovely little beach.

Lumut is a good base to explore the area on the mainland at the coast in West Perak. Of course, many people know Lumut for it is the village where you take the ferry to Pulau Pangkor. Many people simply forget there’s quite a few things on the mainland. Think about mangrove trekkings, Teluk Senangin fishing village, the turtle farm near Segari or simply a good afternoon ABC at the Lumut waterfront.

Your best place to stay as a backpacker is for sure the Era Bed and Breakfast Guesthouse and Hotel. This nice little guesthouse can be found opposite of the busstation (and no, you will have no noise of the busstation or the main road, promise!)

Mr. Syed and his family will welcome you and help you find your way (if not joining you) in and around Lumut. What Mr. Syed offers? Have a look: Era Bed and Breakfast Guesthouse and Hotel in Lumut.
